Head of Digitalisation - Broughton Plant

Ross Banner is 31 years of age, leading the digitalisation of the largest Airbus plant in the UK and home to more than 6,000 employees. The Broughton plant focuses on the wings manufacture of the Airbus family of aircraft, including A320, A330, A350 and A380.

He was selected in 2017 to launch digitilisation in the industrial perimeter and to pull the key foundations of industry 4.0 focusing heavily on interconnectivity, IOT, machine learning, and real-time data.

Ross was tasked with recruitment of a team with a level of digital skills but equally with the right behaviours and inquisitive mindsets that would be responsible for selection and implementation of use cases through proof of concept that would then ultimately improve efficiency in an industrial landscape.

As with all major change programmes the technical challenge, whilst considerable, is only part of the journey with the key enablers being highly effective communications, engagement of end users to create a pull mode for the introduction of these “new” practices.

In terms of business deliverables Ross and his team have launched a number of projects that have delivered or will deliver value, todays this value stands at >1Million euros.

These projects are not just focused on operational excellence but also to enhance other key factors such as safety in the workplace and Quality right first time.

Ross has achieved this through strong leadership values which he exhibits everyday i.e Communication, tenacity, empowerment, teamwork and absolute customer focus in a very demanding operational environment
