Trusted Data Sharing for Cognitive Manufacturing

In the context of Circular Economy, closed-loop PLM extends the meaning of PLM in order to close the loop of the information among the different lifecycle phases of a product. Emerging artificial intelligence and IoT technologies will make machines “intelligent” by enhancing their ability to “think”, monitor their own use, enabling them to take appropriate actions to avoid sub-optimal operation conditions and, when necessary, notify authorised parties about various aspects of their “life”. Together with that, ontologies and associated semantic technologies such as knowledge graphs and digital cognitive twins are rapidly becoming popular in various domains and applications to deal with the tremendous increase of available data captured all along the lifecycle of a product and allow to go beyond “Big Data” and discover and explore their real meaning. All of the above is making manufacturing develop more and more “cognitive” characteristics” and so facilitating and enabling the human-machine collaboration.
